Women Sexual Problems

Sexual problem or sexual dysfunction is generally considered as a problem during any phase of the sexual response cycle that stops a person from enjoying the four phases of sexual pleasure that are excitement, plateau, orgasm and resolution.

According to reports, 43 percent of women face some degree of sexual dysfunction but many of them are reluctant to share their problems with anyone, some because of shyness while others thinks what’s the point in sharing these ailments as they there are no cure for them.

There are many causes for women related sexual problems. It could be divided into two: physical causes and psychological causes.

Physical causes could be diseases like heart disease, neurological diseases, diabetes, hormonal imbalances, menopause, and chronic diseases such as kidney disease or liver failure, alcoholism and drug abuse.

While, psychological causes are related with worries about sexual performance, depression, stress, anxiety, financial related worries, marital discord etc.

The diseases that most women suffer from are subdued sexual desire, painful intercourse, inability to get aroused, and lack of attaining orgasm.

Subdued sexual desire: Women suffering from this disease will find themselves not interested in sexual activity. This could be due to different medications one is going through like for cancer etc, depression, stress and due to pregnancy. Other factors that also contribute in making a woman shun sex are urban lifestyle, job pressure and financial worries.

Inability to get aroused: Getting sexual aroused is the first step towards sex and if she finds it tough to get stimulated then that will make her turn her head with the mere mention of the word sex. This problem also has its roots in anxiety and various other worries. Getting aroused has more to do with brain and if someone’s is not mentally prepared or has some other thoughts dogging her then she will find it tough to get aroused.

Lack of Orgasm: In such cases, a woman finds it tough to get orgasm or she will never attain orgasm. It could be due to psychological factors, fear or due to some unpleasant experiences of the past, insufficient foreplay by her male partner etc.

Painful intercourse: Pain while having intercourse could be due to slew of reasons like endometriosis, insufficient lubrication, ovarian cysts, vaginitis or due to any other sexually transmitted disease (STDs). A woman approaching her menopause or has reached menopause will too have pain, because after menopause vagina doesn’t releases fluid that makes intercourse smooth.

Whatever be the reasons for these sexual problems, all the diseases could be easily be treated. But what is needed is openness from the woman to share her problems with the physicians.

How can these ailments be treated?

The best way to cure these women sexual health related problems requires the first initiative from the patient itself, as it has been seen that they seldom share their sexual problems. Most of the sexual problems can be treated by analyzing the root cause of the problem—whether its due to physical or due to psychological reasons while one can tryout the following treatments to get rid of these problems:

Imparting sex education: Women should be given information about body parts, sexual functions and general physical changes that one witness due with aging. This basic information will go long way in allaying the fear and anxieties that engulf their minds.

Arousing her before lovemaking: Stimulation is must before one begins sexual activity. There are many ways to arouse the passion in her. One can use erotic materials, masturbation and should experiment with positions.

Indulging in foreplay: A man must begin lovemaking with proper foreplay to make his partner ready for the act. Many a time, man without caring about her needs simply get on with the act, which makes the woman feel neglected and she slowly starts hating lovemaking. So, it’s always better for a man to begin the act slowly with foreplay keeping her desire also in mind.

Experiment with positions to spice up sex: Many women go through painful intercourse. It’s because vagina doesn’t releases fluid that makes intercourse painful. It could be avoided with trying out different positions, angles or people can use vaginal lubricants to reduce friction.
